How Does The Egg Donation Process Work For Egg Donor? Overview

How Does The Egg Donation Process Work For Egg Donor

Egg donation is when a woman undergoes a segment in the IVF process to have some of her eggs collected. The collected eggs are then donated to women or couples who are willing to pay for the eggs.

Generally, when a donor attempts to donate eggs, it takes around 2-3 months from the first negotiation from both parties.

This time frame of 2-3 months is constructed for the donor to go through medical consultations, pass tests and screening as a healthy individual along with several counseling preparations and frequent body scans.

There is a bucket of reasons why a woman might fail to put her eggs to use. Enlisted below are some of those reasons:

  • Women over the age of 37-42 years have poor quality eggs or no egg production at all.
  • Women who have had their ovaries removed due to certain medical emergencies but have an intact uterus
  • Women with genetic disorders possess the risk of transmitting the disorder to their offspring such as thalassemia.
  • Likewise, having gone under cancer treatment, or menopause are strong reasons a female opts for a donor’s egg.

Donor Donates Healthy Eggs To Couples Intending To Concieve

1. Medical Screening And Psychological Guidance:

  • Donor’s health must be intact and no room for compromise is available since only a healthy donor can donate viable eggs.
  • Medical screening and a series of medical tests are run over the donor to identify her overall health, fertility levels, hormones, and bodily functions.
  • Likewise, a donor’s mental stability and emotional state must be checked to ensure that she is ready to donate her precious eggs.
  • A report of the donor’s and family’s medical histories is extracted to analyze and rule out potential hereditary diseases.

2. Legal Consent And Counselling:

  • The donor must sign legal agreements that bound her to her responsibilities. This agreement prioritizes that she shall hold no parental right towards any child born from her donated eggs

3. Ovarian Stimulation:

  • After the signing of legal obligations and thorough medical checkup, the immediate process that follows is, injecting hormones to the donor for about 10-14 days.
  • This injection stimulated the ovaries into producing multiple eggs and is carefully monitored via blood tests and ultrasounds
  • As per the doses of hormones, doctors ensure that results tally as per the medications and take additional necessary actions if needed.

4. Retrieval Of Egg:

  • After the ovaries produce eggs and are mature, a final dose of injection is administered, nurturing the eggs for retrieval.
  • The recovery period is necessary during this phase, as the body of the donor arrives to normality in a couple of days.

5. Payment:

  • The egg donor receives compensation for her contribution financially. The price for the donation depends upon the negotiation performed earlier. While speaking of recovery, the donor female recovery takes anywhere from a few weeks to some months.
  • Throughout, intense affection and care must be showered!
